This is a story of 2 men, and a lost wedding ring. John Taylor is a Hawkesberry Barrister who spotted his friend Terry frantically searching the front yard. John stopped his car and asked Terry if he needed any help? Terry mentioned he had lost his wedding ring, a ring he had been wearing for 59 years. Terry had given up hope finding the ring, but John being the persistent and generous man he is decided to hire a metal detector from Kenards. They spent some time searching for the lost ring with the hire detector, but we’re overwhelmed with the constant signals the detector was picking up. John, still not giving up hope did some research on the Internet and found my website. After a quick phone call I told him I would be happy to help out. We organised a day and I drove out to Windor (about an hour plus drive north west of Sydney)… This is where I met Terry and Nancy, a lovely couple who had been married for almost 60 years. After meeting the couple in person, this made me want to find their lost wedding ring even more. Terry was not sure where the ring had dropped off his finger, as he had spent time in various places throughout his front and back yard. I asked Terry, if he had to guess a spot where he feels the ring might be, where would it be?? He mentioned a spot in the garden where he had been pulling out the roots of an old palm tree. I started detecting that particular area, and in about 1 minute I had pulled Terry’s wedding ring out of the dirt. Terry and his wife Nancy we’re rightfully happy to have the ring back in their possession. The local Windsor paper published an article on the story which John kindly mailed to me
I love my job!

This morning I drove out to Berkshire, near Richmond North/West of Sydney. My mission was to retrieve a wedding ring which was lost in the backyard of Meridith’s beautiful home. Meridith had actually felt both her rings fall off as she flicked her hand, but she was only able to find one of the lost rings. Meridith mentioned to me she was thinking of buying a metal detector on eBay to help find the ring before stumbling upon my website. It was a good thing she found me, as the area where the rings dropped was above reinforced concrete. The steel in the concrete was making the detector go crazy even at a low power level. Since I was having no luck stabilizing the detector above the concreted area, I decided to search to the edges of the concrete where grass could be hiding a ring. The first signal I received was Meridith’s beautiful white gold wedding ring. Meridith gave me a big hug and was happy to have her wedding ring back in possession. And considering the last two jobs I had been on where unsuccessful, my confidence was now back

I received a phone call from David this morning. He had this misfortune of losing his wedding ring for the second time. First time he recovered the ring himself, but this time he was having no luck. He was 95% sure he lost the ring in his back yard while pushing his kids on a swing. But he did not actually feel the moment the ring fell off his finger. I drove out to Roseville, just north of Chatswood on Sydney’s Upper North Shore. David was at work at the time, but his wife showed me the area the ring could have fallen. There was a lot of thick grass where David’s wedding ring could have been hiding. I began my usual grid pattern in the area David was pushing the swing. I then worked my way down to a wire fence. I was receiving lots of signals, but non of them was the ring. I decided to start searching the other side of the swing and work my way up towards the house. It wasn’t long after that I received a nice smooth sound from my detector. I checked the depth on the display..and it indicated 0.5 inchs deep. I thought cool, this could be Davids wedding ring. I lifted a large leaf which was covering the signal area…and there it was, David’s gold wedding band. It had fallen into an indentation in the grass. The photo attached is in the exact spot I found the ring. David’s wife was very pleased the ring was back in their possession

I received a phone call from Nicola who had the misfortune of losing her very expensive diamond engagement ring. A matter of fact, Nicola did not even realise her engagement ring was missing…this was brought to her attention by a very observant friend. After tracing back her steps, Nicola beleived the last time she noticed the ring on her finger was on Monday, and realised it was missing on Wednesday. She called me on the Friday to help her find it. The problem with this particular job was, Nicola has no idea where it may have dropped. The only clue was Nicola and her husband had been ripping up grass in their yard the weekend prior. The ring may have fallen off while doing this, but Nicola had a slight recollection of seeing the ring on her finger the Monday after pulling up the grass. I mentioned on the phone that there is very little chance of me finding the ring without knowing the general vicinity of where it was lost, but I was happy to help search the yard anyway. At least by doing this, it would make Nicola feel at ease that her ring is not lost in her yard. So off I headed to Matraville in Sydneys South-Eastern suburbs. I began the search in Nicola’s back yard. After finding lots of scrap metal, and a couple of coins I moved to the front yard to search where Nicola had been doing some weeding. Unfortunately after about an hour and a half of searching, I was unable to find Nicola’s lost engagement ring. I am hoping with time, Nicola will find the lost ring somewhere in her home or car. Nicola, it was a pleasure meeting you, your husband and little girl. I am sorry I was unable to find your engagement ring. Please let me know if the ring ever shows up.
